Where do I begin?
Kicking off the New Year, I tend to feel a little freaked
out.
I like to do a quick reflection on the previous year and
be thankful for all the good fortune of family, friends, and
life in general.
Then comes the time to freak out . . .
I start to think about all of the things I want to accomplish
this year. My list is never short. And it seems that I never
have that one big thing that I want to accomplish. It’s
a bunch of things, in a bunch of directions.
Although I get a bit freaked out, it is exciting at the same
time.
Here’s what I do . . .
I make a laundry list of things I want to do this year. Write
it down and put it away for a day or two. Then I pull it back
out, make sure it’s stuff I really want to do, and then
I type it up nice and neat.
Then I post it by my desk where I’ll see it daily.
I then separate the list into three categories:
1. Events 2. Projects 3.
Habits
Events: Things you can just do (take a trip).
Projects: Things to work on that have a beginning
and an end (re-plant the garden).
Habits: Behaviors that I want to change (be more
relaxed).
I then select what I want to work on in January and get started.
The list might be long but you have to start somewhere. At
Your Life Just Better, we have a great Projects and Habits
Worksheet that I use to help me stay focused and not take
on too much.
The key thing is that I move from freaked out, to excited,
to action.
