BOOOOOO !!!!!!!!
Are Fears Keeping You From A Better Life?
Halloween is around the corner. It’s the time we pretend
with our kids that there are ghosts, goblins and all kinds
of scary things that wander in the dark. We let scary movies
shock our socks off and terrify us with “what-if”
fears. Halloween is all fun and games; it comes and goes.
But do you let your own “created” fears keep you
from your best life? Are they keeping you from getting
to your next level of personal or professional success? Or
maybe you do recognize your fears but you don’t know
how to address them.
From the perspective of coaching, it’s best to look
at fear and decide if it’s a beneficial instinct or
an internal block that holds you back. Some examples that
are beneficial include being afraid you will miss out on your
kids’ lives if all you do is focus on your career, getting
into financially risky situations that you are not in a position
to undertake, or jumping into a new business before you have
everything planned and thought out. On the other hand, fears
that block and hold us back include fear of success, fear
that I’m not good enough, or fear of change.
Fears that hold you back may have originated from your own
past experiences, however, they may also have been handed
down or taught to you. But nevertheless you’ve adopted
them and made them a powerful force in your life that is causing
you an internal conflict and keeping you from living your
best.
So what do you do when your fear rises and you know it’s
holding you back? You have choices and making a choice lets
you know that you are no longer paralyzed by the fear. You
can accept it or do something about it. Let’s call it
“picking your battles”.
Accepting your fear means that it is not worth the turmoil
or reward to do anything about it. It also may mean the timing
is not right. Just remember if you decide to accept it, it
doesn’t have to be forever. I’m sure that same
fear will creep into your life at another time and you can
choose again what you are going to do. And if you do accept
your fear, know that it was a decision you made with diligence
rather than from a passive position of weakness.
So what do you do if you decide to face your fear and do
something about it? There are basically four steps:
Acknowledge: What is this fear and how does it appear?
Research: Understand it and what are the ramifications
of facing it?
Strategy: How will you face your fear?
Action: Go and face it with the full understanding
of what you are doing.
At Your Life Just Better, we help clients in many ways. We
can help identify your fear so you can decide whether to accept
it or do something about it. We strongly believe that you
have the answers within yourself. And by working with one
of our personal one-on-one coaches and using our tools and
strategies, we will help you find those answers in less time
and without spending so much emotional energy.
So go and have fun with Halloween. Watch those scary movies
that let your imagination run wild with fear. Just don’t
let your unwanted created fears keep you from A Better Life.
